Frequently Asked Questions

What to know about your future addition!

Any other questions? Feel free to reach out to us!

Where are you located?

Mooresville, North Carolina- about half hour north of Charlotte.

How often do we have a litter?

Usually twice a year.

How big will my Ridgeback get?

For males, from 80 to 120 pounds.

For females, from 70 to 100 pounds.

How difficult is training?

Training a Ridgeback is easy as can be, as long as you remember consistency is key. By the time you pick up your puppy, we have them potty pad trained, which helps the transition to their forever home. Ridgebacks do very well with training when rewarded with praise (a few "good boys!" go a long way with training).

Do I need a lot of land to have a Ridgeback?

As long as ridgebacks get proper exercise, they don't need a lot of space. Ridgebacks make great running and bicycling partners, which make them a great companion for city-goers and suburbanites as well as large land owners.

What should I expect to pay for my puppy?

A $500 deposit is required to secure your pup. Once they are ready to be taken home, the remaining $2000 would be due upon pick up.

For budget minded people, keep your eye on our Facebook page, we have been known to have an occasional sale.

Do I have to crate train?

While it is not a requirement to crate train your puppy, it is a recommendation. We choose to use the crate training method with our dogs as it gives us peace of mind knowing everything will be as we left it. It also provides a space where the dog can feel safe.

At what age can my puppy come home?

At six weeks of age, puppies are fully weaned and eating solid foods, and they're ready to go to their furever homes!

How long do Ridgebacks live?

Rhodesian Ridgebacks average lifespan is about 10 to 12 years.

Are Ridgebacks good with small children?

Absolutely, I have raised four children amongst dozens of ridgebacks. From newborn to newlywed, my children have thrived being raised with ridgebacks, who thrive being around the kids.

Are Ridgebacks good with other pets or dogs in the house?

We have a Chihuahua, and have many puppy families who are raising their ridgeback with all sorts of pets around them: fish, cats, birds, livestock. Our Rhodesian matriarch, Ellie, was raised on a farm surrounded by donkeys, goats, chickens, pigs, and a horse, and loved every minute of it.

What do I feed my Ridgeback puppy?

We recommend a grain free, chicken based diet (chicken first ingredient to make sure it is not chicken by-product or chicken meal). We feed our dogs Purina One Large Breed Puppy in chicken. If you're a Costco member, we also recommend and use Nature's Domain Puppy food.
